I am running 'Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.2'.! Basics are as follows:
FX-6300 AMD 6 CORE CPU
ASROCK Motherboard
N68C-GS4 FX
8GBs DDR3
2TB SATA HARDDRIVE
8GBs SWAP FILE = sda1
48GBs Fileystem Root / = sda2
1.9TBs /Home = sda3
I am about to install an SSD 128GBS for faster Boot time.!
I plan to do a fresh install on SSD.
Q) Can I put the Swap File 8GBs and Fileystem Root / on the SSD but leave the 2TB SATA as the /Home.?

Re: Partition Question
Yes - - that's a common way to partition your new Linux system.
you could also use SDA4 to use the rest of that SSD UN-used area,
and maybe split that 2Tb HDD into 2 X 1Tb partitions, for /home & /data
