Mouse pointer freezes in Firefox

Post by buffalojoe »

I have just completed a clean install of Mint Cinnamon, everything went well until I installed the video card. The mouse pointer freezes and works very intermittently making navigation almost impossible. I have disabled the HW acceleration settings but no difference, I have changed the Nvidea drivers, no difference. There must be some options I am missing or some conflict I created, any help would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Did you get the Nvidia driver from Mint Driver Manager? That's the most reliable way. Many newbies just dl them from the mfr's site, which is obvious in WIndows but not so much in Linux.

Yes, update via the Driver Manager, although it has behaved usually. The first time I booted with the graphics card it was black screen only, I removed the graphics and card and it booted fine, fitted it again and esc to grub menu and it then booted ok. Checked Driver Manager and it was preselected on the 2nd option, chose the first and rebooted, since then it now defaults to the grub menu on every boot. Noticed the glitchy behavior in Firefox after checking the settings I used the driver manager to select the 2nd option on the list. Rebooted and checked Firefox, same behavior, thought I would reselect the top option for the driver but now it says I have a manually installed driver and I can no longer select any other option.
I hope you can all follow that chain of events.

I think the problem was incompatible ram, the timings were correct but the latency was different and I don't think the HP mobo liked it. I only came to this conclusion after trying a Win10 install and having similar issues, I am cant say for sure as I still have some issues in my second attempt at a Mint install.
