Delay when clicking/dragging windows

Post by nikko » Fri Jul 13, 2018 8:14 am

Hello,

I recently installed Mint 19 with Cinnamon on a new Dell XPS 13.
I noticed that, when I click on a window to drag it with a mouse or the touchpad, there is a delay between the moment I move the mouse and
the moment this move is reproduced on screen, about half a second. This is quite annoying. I already switched on the "disable touchpad while using keyboard option" but it did not change anything.

The switch between tabs in Firefox ( and even more in Vivaldi) is quite slow too. I was previously using Mint 17 on an older Asus laptop and
did not encounter those problems. Is there sometihng I can do to fix them ?

Please post the output of this terminal command:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Enclose the results in-between [ⅽode] and [/ⅽode] code markers by selecting </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply.
There are no silly questions, but there are silly answers.

I fixed this disabling the "Emulate middle click by clicking both left and right buttons" in mouse settings.

https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/3725

Did it work ?

No I already tried this and unfortunately it had no effect.
For now I am using Mate, which is running just fine.

Clem writes in this blog post (read for more info)...
Clem wrote:Although Vsync prevents screen tearing from happening, it also has a performance cost. That cost is visible in Cinnamon when dragging a window with the mouse. As you move the mouse cursor left and right, you can notice that the window which is dragged under it doesn’t move exactly “with it”, but with a slight delay, as if there was some sort of elastic band between the cursor and the window it’s holding.
