Logout, Shutdown, Restart not working correctly

Post by dgmorland »

When I try to logout, I see the window with Switch User, Cancel and Logout buttons. If I press Logout, the dialog closes but it doesn't log me out. It is as if I have pressed the Cancel button. If I try to logout a second time the same window appears but now when I click on Logout button there is an audible click and it logs me out immediately The same problem happens with Shutdown and Restart - the first time I press these buttons the window closes and nothing further happens. If I try again I hear the sound when clicking the button and it shuts down or restarts immediately. I googled and found old posts referring to a similar problem that was fixed in gnome a while back but this was fixed in an older version.

EDIT: I tried booting a fresh LM19 from a USB stick and the buttons work correctly so the problem seems to be something to do with my installation.

Here are some details of my system.

I spoke to soon. After reinstalling a couple more apps and customising theme the problem returned! Thats the bad news. The good news is that I have tracked down the cause of the issue but I dont know how to overcome it yet The problem is caused by the Viber application. If Viber is running, the first time I try to logout or shutdown the request is ignored. Second attempt works. If I close the viber app first, the logout and shutdown options work first time. I dont think this is anything to do with Cinnamon at all so it looks like I have posted in the wrong forum. Viber is v7.0.0.1035. I will try and find a solution.
