I remember reading on a thread some time ago of a bug I have experienced on 17.3 and now on 18.3.
The windowed interface seems to run out of memory and partly freezes sometimes for minutes, applications keep running, the display seems slowed to locked while hard drive spins.
Am i right in thinking this is a known bug?

Re: Bug with cinnamon?
Not quite - I've seen lots of reports of people suffering memory leaks or freezes on the forum and on Github, but generally they are difficult to reproduce, not universal, sometimes hardware or kernel specific or related to third party applets / extensions etc.
I don't suffer these issues and have run Cinnamon for a couple of years (18.x and 19).
You can check out https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues to see current issues
https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/labels/BUG & https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/l ... REPRODUCED are also informative.
To troubleshoot this type of thing first thing i would be doing is disabling any third party applets/desklets/extensions and/or trying a fresh user account for a while and see if the problem recurs.
If that doesn't help post up a support request on the forum with your

Re: Bug with cinnamon?
that's interesting to know, thanks. Apart from being frustrating at times it is not the end of the world. 17.1 didn't do it for me and each install has been a completely fresh install, and with 18.3 it was doing it with the default install.
just curious more than anything else.

Re: Bug with cinnamon?
Nothing obviously wrong in your inxi. However a quick google
I don't have Nvidia hardware personally, but I would suggest experimenting with the different available drivers including the open-source nouveau driver and see if the system is more stable with a different graphics driver.
NVIDIA 384.130 freezes
or NVIDIA GM107 linux freezes
it appears that this happens across various distros quite frequently with your hardware and/or driver.I don't have Nvidia hardware personally, but I would suggest experimenting with the different available drivers including the open-source nouveau driver and see if the system is more stable with a different graphics driver.

Re: Bug with cinnamon?
Thanks. I have tried other drivers, current setup minimises the problem only happens every few days. Guess I will have to live with it.
