Cinnamon XServer crash after drivers de nvidia install

Post by pedromt »

Hello,

I have Linux Mint 19 installed on a PC with an nVidia video card. After installing the nvidia drivers, it started to fail. Just a few seconds after loading and displaying cinnamon, the screen begins to blink and everything freezes. This linux, notice that it was not completely updated.

As soon as it finishes loading, before it freezes, I can access a console by pressing CTRL + ALT + Fn.

I was able to enter recovery mode, and I was able to uninstall the nvidia drivers with the command:

Code: Select all

apt-get remove nvidia-*
apt-get purge
Then try to enter, and press CTRL + ALT + F2, uninstall cinnamon and xorg and reinstall them, but the problem persists. Continuing to fail ...

more info:

I try with the boot parameters "nomodeset xforcevesa" and even so it continues to fail.

Code: Select all

ubuntu-drivers devices
result:

Code: Select all

== /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0b.0/0000:02:00.0 ==
modalias : pci:v000010DEd00000849sv00001458sd0000D000bc03sc00i00
vendor : NVIDIA Corporation
model : C77 [GeForce 8200]
driver : nvidia-340 - distro non-free recommended
driver : xserver-xorg-video-nouveau - distro free builtin
Apparently, it's still configured with the nvidia drivers ...

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxznr
Result:

I clarify ... I am interested in solving the problem with the graphic interface, I am NOT INTERESTED that the nVidia drivers work. With what are the generic ones that I had before this problem is enough! Actually probe install nVidia drivers to see if I allowed to choose other screen resolutions, but this is not essential.

Thank you so much!
