I did a clean install of Mint Cinnamon 19.1 and had checked to auto login during the installation process. I later decided to require my password to login and so edited lightdm.conf by putting # in front of each line. Now I do have the enter password screen for login.
However before the regular login screen there is a black screen that quickly displays "auto login password" (or something like that) for about 1 second or so. I saw it before I when I did have auto login enabled but I thought this screen would not show up once login is enabled.
Anyone have any ideas about this?

You probably just saw tty1 flashing by. Also just for future usage: You don't need to manually edit lightdm.conf, you can just use the Login Window tool from the menu to change these settings.
