Using a particular tty with Cinnamon

Post by tedbar »

Good evening. I am new to Mint having converted from being a long time user of other Nix's. This means it is my first encounter with Cinamon, a very pleasant encounter to date :).

I have multiple users of the same desktop. They log in and stay logged in. So the first is assigned tty7, the second tty 8 etc. If, for example, I log in first I am active on tty7, subsequent users log in and tty8 and 9 are used. If I make changes that require a log out (groups to take effect for example), when I log back in I am assigned the next tty - in the example of 7, 8 and 9 having been used I would become active on 10 and 7 would be unused.

Is there a way to force the use of a particular tty? Can I tell Cinamon to log me in using tty7?

cheers
Ted
