[Solved] Mount problem on dual boot

Post by gbone »

I'm using an Asus P6T motherboard desktop that is dual boot with Windows 10 and LM18.3 Cinnamon.
I was using Windows yesterday and when done put it into 'sleep' mode, and this morning I used Win 10 again, did a normal shutdown and then later rebooted to LM. Now I cannot get access to the NTFS partition from LM and I get the following error message:
Error mounting /dev/sda2 at /media/bena/4E5AFF535AFF35F5: Command-line `mount -t "ntfs" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000" "/dev/sda2" "/media/bena/4E5AFF535AFF35F5"' exited with non-zero exit status 14: Windows is hibernated, refused to mount.
Failed to mount '/dev/sda2': Operation not permitted
The NTFS partition is in an unsafe state. Please resume and shutdown
Windows fully (no hibernation or fast restarting), or mount the volume
read-only with the 'ro' mount option.
I have re-entered Win 10 several times and did a standard power shutdown but no change. Also I've gone into win 10 system tools and scanned the drive but found no errors.
Moreover, I've tried the mount command but LM says I can only do that from root, but I have the "$" prompt. How do I get to root status?
Any ideas?

This might be worth a try:

Boot into Win 10 and see if you have a hyberfi.sys on your drive. If so delete it:

Disable fast startup also if you haven't already done that:

Perform a proper shutdown and reboot into Mint. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

Thank you. Disabling the Fast Startup was the key!
I couldn't find a file called 'hiberfil.sys'; maybe its a hidden file?

Yes, it's a hidden file. Sorry I forgot to mention it before.
I am glad you got it working!
