Session switch. Freeze of sessions.

Hi,
LM 18.3, Cinnamon. Using approx 3 months.

when I switch from one session to another or back, it frequently (almost always) got frozen after few secs- windows, icons freeze or got blank, just frames visible, panel visible but no reaction, if press on menu-logoff leads to frozen logoff window too, buttons unresponsive.
Only switch to console and

helps. But then I loose all sessions and content.

any suggestions?
