i have my drives other than the os drive as follows. all automount just fine on reboot except for the downloads partition. i even shrank another partition, created a new downloads partition, copied the data over to it, deleted the old partition, and changed the mount point of the new partition to it's corresponding folder in CombinedPartitions. i'm at a lost on this one. suggestions and ideas please.
/home/CombinedPartitions(name of partition / drive)

side note: after reboot i have to open gparted to mount the drive. opening disk to mount it doesn't work, nor rightclicking it to mount it.

sdc2 ext4 Downloads 1f8d9bae-291c-49d2-82c6-8dc74c781756 /home/Combi
Your
lsblk -f
shows only one partition labeled as Downloads, while you have three entries in
fstab
with mountpoint at
/home/CombinedPartitions/Downloads
. Only on has an UUID that corresponds to the one from lsblk namely
1f8d9bae-291c-49d2-82c6-8dc74c781756
.
/dev/disk/by-uuid/9c4ac4ef-d0db-4e2c-8eb0-473ddb1c9648 /home/CombinedPartitions/Downloads ext4 nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show 0 0
/dev/disk/by-uuid/b0d6eefe-f731-4b65-9a69-c95971919dd1 /home/CombinedPartitions/Downloads auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show 0 0
/dev/disk/by-uuid/1f8d9bae-291c-49d2-82c6-8dc74c781756 /home/CombinedPartitions/Downloads auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show 0 0
The only reason that your system boots up normaly is, most probably the presence of
nofail
. It cannot mount three partitons at one and the same mounpoint and presumably gives up.
If all the above make sense to you, you would need to delete completely the two "offending entries in the fstab , keeping the one with the right UUID.

in a nutshell, root fstab after backing it up to be safe, remove the top 2 lines you listed, save, and reboot and i should be good to go. right? and if something goes sideways just boot into the live key and restore the fstab backup.

Yes, it's a good plan. Hopefully it works as it should, but IF it doesn't and you restore the fstab from backup, we will be back at square 1 and I don't know where to take it from there. Go for it! Fingers crossed!

done and all's well. entries gone and partition automounting. i did notice while i was in fstab that there is still a entry for MrGrimm's Docs. would i be right in assuming since i created My Docs to replace it and then deleted the MrGrimm's Docs partition that i can simply delete that line? and thanks for the help

Right, looks like this one
Code: Select all
/dev/disk/by-uuid/cfff7c49-02a9-4f91-ac48-941895fb329b /home/CombinedPartitions/MrGrimm's\040Docs ext4 nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show 0 0
can go as well.

now i need to reopen my plex thread cause i have a bit of a mystery. after combining music and music videos in there own folders onn the old aac's partition i updated plex and it sees the videos but not the music. odd one since i expressly went in and gave myself permission on the partition again after renaming it.
EDIT:
decided tol remove the library again and readd it. same setup but this time it;s actually populating. i can under the EXTREMELY plex hate thread on the plex forums.
