Cinnamon crashes : I finally found the culprit !

Post by denis-beurive »

Hello,

Cinnamon crashes systematically at startups. However, I could not figure out why.

But I finally found the culprit !

This is the JetBrains toolbox.

https://www.jetbrains.com/toolbox/

This application automatically starts when I open a session... and Cinnamon crashes.

If I kill the application and restart it manually... Cinnamon crashes.

Today, I clicked on an "update" button on the application (to update WebStorm)... and Cinnamon crashed.

Thus, the culprit is the JetBrains toolbox. There is no doubt about that.

However, I wonder : how could an application make the desktop crash ?

Do you have any idea ?

Thanks,

Denis

Hello Deepakdeshp,

Can you execute the command "inxi -Fxz" on your computer ? Could you send the result please ?

I don't have time right now to investigate (strace...). But I'll try to find out what does the toolbox do.

Thanks,

Denis

I am using Mint 19.1. For you it is better to fresh install 19.1. One more way is to try it with Mint 19.1 Cinnamon live USB.

@Deepakdeshp,

Thank you. I'll try the version 19.1 in a VM.
