Cinnamon crash loses d-bus session?

Post by jean.jordaan »

I've started connecting an ASUS MB169B+ 15.6" Full HD 1920x1080 IPS USB Portable Monitor to my Dell XPS 15 via DisplayPort, so now I have three screens.
This works pretty great.

However if I suspend without switching off the ASUS monitor, Cinnamon comes up blank; i.e. all my GUI programs died, though my `screen` session is fine.
Subsequently, when I start `gvim`, it reports:

Code: Select all

(gvim:6909): GConf-WARNING **: Client failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon:
Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-....: Connection refused
It looks like `export $(dbus-launch)` fixes this for one terminal.

Is there maybe a way to avoid losing connection to the D-Bus daemon when Cinnamon restarts?
Is this a known issue?
