I really like using a specific window layout. For example, browser covering 60% of the screen from the left and etc smaller stuff on the right. I can open all the windows I want and make the layout I like, but when I close any of the windows, Mutter opens them somewhere else.
Earlier, the problem was I had "Center" as "Location of newly opened windows" in Windows>Behavior settings. The other options are Manual, Automatic and Cursor. Manual makes me drag and click where I want to put the window. Cursor just opens wherever my cursor is. Automatic is the closest to desired behavior, but it ALWAYS puts the window "a bit to the right".
I don't know why it does that, because every time I have to resize my browser and drag it to the left.
"Edge resistence with other windows and monitor boundaries" is turned off, but I can't see the effect of that option.
Any suggestions? Is it possible to use another Window Manager with Cinnamon?

Re: Make Mutter memorize window positioning
Unfortunately not - Cinnamon it tied to Muffin as WM (it's Muffin by the way a fork of Mutter).
For your use case you mind find the third party extension gTile useful - https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/e ... ns/view/21 to give more options for tiling that Muffin gives out of the box. You can download, activate and configure it via the Extensions GUI from the menu.
Alternatively if you are happy with a bit of bash scripting and have a regular set of apps to open and place automating this via a script utilising
