well thanks for your reply but i fixed it yesterday by changing Image.VERSION to Image.PILVERSION
as Image object did'nt have VERSION attribute in my release of PIL, hopefully it might help someone in near future.

I really can't understand the meaning of this.
If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.
I am using Mint 19.1 Cinnamon 64 bit with AMD A8/7410 processor . Memory 8GB

I assume you meant chage the string in imtools.py", line 622, did that and get

Code: Select all

File "/usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-settings/bin/imtools.py", line 622, in <module>
    if Image.PILVERSION == '1.1.7':
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'PILVERSION'
I am getting

Code: Select all

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-settings/cinnamon-settings.py", line 45, in <module>
    modules = map(__import__, mod_files)
  File "/usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-settings/modules/cs_backgrounds.py", line 5, in <module>
    import imtools
  File "/usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-settings/bin/imtools.py", line 622, in <module>
    if Image.VERSION == '1.1.7':
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'VERSION'
ian@bilbo2 /usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-settings/bin $
And while most of the menu works I cannot open startup applications. It did work and I am not sure what has been changed to break it

Going to the linked solution and editing imtools.py by removing the code block and changing the call in the next solved it for me
