Ricing Mint
Hi folks, new member here. Not completely new to Mint as I've installed it in a number of friends/family boxes. They thank me lol.
Just as a precursor, I know just enough about GNU/Linux to be a hazard to myself and those around me. That being said:
I love Mint
I don't love Bodhi
I love certain WM (?) aspects of Enlightenment
Specifically, I want the clock display for myself in Mint
More specifically, I want the "looks" of the whole right side of Bodhi's (Enlightenment) taskbar for my Mint/Cinnamon desktop
Can this be done?
TIA

Re: Ricing Mint
You will need to edit a cinnamon desktop theme to get that look for the calendar applet on Cinnamon. Starting point would be picking a theme that you are happy with for it's other characteristics - then I can talk you through the edits needed for the clock.
The shutdown icon can be added via a Cinnamon Spices applet - e.g Session manager - it defaults to a symbolic panel icon but you can change that in it's config. It's downloaded and activated via the Applets module.

Thanks for responding smurphos!
I'm gonna screenshot everything
I've installed the session manager
When I first used it, the function ribbon were all in different colors
As you can see now, everything is grey after I resized the other icons
I tried to resize the icon (bigger) with no luck
I tried to color it with no luck
I've fetched my info for ya
Thank you

Re: Ricing Mint
Ugh. Can someone tell me what the file size limits are for uploading gif and png files?
TIA
TIA
Re: Ricing Mint
It's somewhere between 50-100k, if your files/images are larger upload them to a site such as imgur and post here using the
rimg

Re: Ricing Mint
Eh... way?
Anyways, Arc-Darkest theme could be a good starting point as it has that bluish feel of some of the dark themes for E17.
Cheers.
Re: Ricing Mint
I certainly wanted to like Bodhi. Just never worked out.
Could be my hardware Idk. Their browser from the get go never worked correctly and everything seemed to just have a “pregnant pause”. That’s just my experience.
That old school filament clock they got going though.. I gotta have it lol!

Hi bronks,
Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum!
I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.
"Converseen" and other image related software can easily reduce or scale images to fit that size or you can use an image hosting website (postimages.org, imgur, etc...) and get a shared "direct link" to the image and paste that into your posts or replies; use the "rimg" toolbar button available when posting or replying to make remote images appear in this forum.

I believe this forum allows direct attachments including images to posts and or replies to around 200kb or less.bronks wrote:Ugh. Can someone tell me what the file size limits are for uploading gif and png files?TIA

Thank you phd.
Kinda upset at myself for not finding that stub first, before asking.
Don't want to seem lazy cause I'm not lol.
Cheers!

Re: Ricing Mint
On a side note:
I repurposed an older Dell Latitude E6420.
Great machine! It's become my daily driver and it's built tough.
Whether it's because I loaded Mint or it's just a good build... or probably both!
My advice if you come across it, grab it.

Re: Ricing Mint
So on the installed applet right click > configure to bring up this window.
Click on the default icon to change it - search for system-shutdown
Ignore the Icons Size setting here - its for Cinnamon prior to version 4.0. All panel icon sizing is now controlled from the Panel Settings module. Right click on your panel and select Panel Settings.

Re: Ricing Mint
Are you sticking with Mint-Y-Dark as your Cinnamon Desktop theme?
So you'll need to find a Font that matches the one in your screenshot. I don't know what it is just by looking but the nearest i could find on a quick hunt was Quicksand - https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Quicksand
You can install that one from the fonts.google site.
Then copy the folder
Then open the file
Navigate to the code block
Change to
Save the file and restart Cinnamon with Ctrl-Alt-Esc.
Tweak until happy, testing via a Cinnamon restart each time.
Caveat - this will as written use that style for all applet labels. It could be restricted to a specific panel and area of panel (i.e the one the holds the Calendar applet) if you prefer. Let me know.

Re: Ricing Mint
Hi smurphos,
I should've screen shotted it while I was using it.
Anyways, the clock is a bit more nuanced then a simple font switch.
There's shading behind the font which gives it the whole retro/tube look... which is what I'm after.
My screenshot provided doesn't quite do it justice, but you get the idea.
I do thank you for the code effort.
What about this: could we narrow down Bodhi's source code to just the taskbar/panel?
Then swap that out in Mint's? ... just spit ballin
cheers

This is an exaggerated version, but kinda shows what I'm getting at:
EDIT: ahh, they're actually called Nixie Tubes

Re: Ricing Mint
Links to bhodi sources appear to be here.. https://www.bodhilinux.com/w/source-code/
Now if you know exactly what theme you were using....we might be able to find the right css (and font).
Anyway the effects could possibly be done with text-shadows.
E.g. a quick and dirty blur
Edit - to add - I been messing with text shadows and long transition-durations to see if I could get a history shadow effect on the clock. Doesn't look like Cinnamon supports transition on the text label updates.
