What exactly happens when a new user logs in to GUI?

Post by softmonaut » Thu Aug 15, 2019 12:52 pm

Hi,

after creating a new user with

Code: Select all

adduser john
on command line, a skeleton home dir

Code: Select all

/home/john
for this user is setup according to the contents of

Code: Select all

/etc/skel
. So far so good. When switching from my user account to the john (GUI) a lot of additional stuff happens and /home/john fills up with some other dirs and files. I guess

Code: Select all

xdg-user-dirs-update
is triggered to set up common user dirs, etc.

But what happens exactly and is it possible to trigger these steps from command line when creating the new user from another user account to have a "complete" user account as setup after GUI-login?

Thx in advance
Jörg
