Desktop Shortcuts/Links

Post by cessanfrancisco » Tue Aug 27, 2019 10:18 pm

Does anyone know how to make shortcuts/links of files/folders to put on the desktop? Until 19.2 you were able to right click on the file/folder, click the "+" and make your link/shortcut. That little "+" seems to be gone in 19.2.

Thanks!

With Caja from Mate 19.2, right click, Make Link, move link to Desktop.
Mint Mate 19.1. Main rig is HP 800G2 I5 6500 16GB ram, 120GB boot drive, 2x3TB, 1x4TB data drives. Oldest rig is Mate 18.3 on Dell D620 with 32bits core duo.

Thanks but I'm using the Cinnamon Desktop and there is no such option when right-clicking.

Thanks, but like I said in my original post the "+" isn't there in 19.2.

Don't you have a Make Link option?
Click that and drag the link to where you need it.

Nope. No "Make A Link" option in 19.2.

You are using Nemo file manager right?
I am unable to force Nemo into a mode that will not display Make Link option using Cinnamon 19.2.
Sorry

Mine is the same as all41.
However I learnt (from the below thread) that you can create a link by dragging & dropping the file onto the desktop while holding down Ctrl & Shift..

I just discovered if I click the file/folder then go to the menu and click "Edit" I get the "Make A Link" option in the dropdown. Still can't figure how to get the "Make A Link" option when I right-click the file/folder.

Mine, too, is now like All41's. However, I did open dconf-editor, then went to:

/ org / nemo / preferences /

and changed the following to "ON"

context-menus-show-all-actions

EDIT: I've just realised that you don't need dconf-editor, "Use full context menu" is the last but two option on Nemo's "Edit" menu.

I too don't have any plus sign or "make link" options in the right-click menu. (19.2 Cinnamon edition.) After reading an older post I ended up using Ctrl+M to make a shortcut and drag it where I wanted it.

I would like to add "make link" to the context menu though.

I'm new to Linux Mint and I'm not sure how to open dconf-editor. I entered it into the menu search, but didn't find it. Is it something I need to install?

Edited to Add: I found it in Software Manager and just installed it. I now have the "make link" option in the right-click context menu. Thank you!
