Lock screen is frozen

Post by scorr14 » Thu Oct 03, 2019 9:34 pm

I am running the latest linux mint 19.2

Ever since installing my lock screen has been graphically frozen.

I can still type and enter my password to unlock, but the password box does not get filled with * characters, and I have no other visual feedback on the lockscreen.

Has anyone else seen this, or have any recommendations on how I can proceed to rectify the problem?

Yes: viewtopic.php?f=208&t=289125. No recommendations other than for now disabling the lock screen unfortunately.

what happens if you unplug and replug the keyboard and/or the mouse? Will it work then?
All things go better with Mint. Mint julep, mint jelly, mint gum, candy mints, pillow mints, peppermint, chocolate mints, spearmint,....

My input still works. So I don't think it has anything to do with the keyboard. Its just the the screen is frozen, and doe snot update as I type.

EDIT: Is there a bug open on the github issues?

I'm running Mint 19.2 and what I've discovered so far is that this seems to happen when Thunderbird pops up a calendar event notification window behind the lock screen. When that happens, the lock screen appears unresponsive and only shows the first star or no stars when typing in the password, but it is still functional and if you type in your password and hit enter, it will unlock the desktop like normal.

Has anyone noticed if this is happening due to windows popping up behind the lock screen as I'm describing here? I'm not sure if notification pop-ups cause this too or not, or if it's just my Thunderbird calendar event windows causing it.

you are correct, I've been caught out a few times by windows hidden by others in front. Look at panel, or reduce each full page till you can find it.
