Have nemo always forget last dimensions

Post by scorr14 »

I find is very very annoying, when I open nemo, it opens in the last dimensions it was in.

For example if I pin nemo to the right side of the screen, where it is 50% with width of the screen and 100% the height, when I subsequently open nemo again, it opens in the middle of my screen with the same dimensions.

I would like nemo to open always to a default position and dimension, regardless of what was open last.

Hi.

You can lock Nemo to a specific geometry by locking some dconf keys so that nemo can't change them as you resize it's window.

Relevant keys -

/org/nemo/window-state/geometry
/org/nemo/window-state/maximized

Steps.

1) Reset those keys to default values

Code: Select all

dconf reset /org/nemo/window-state/geometry

Code: Select all

dconf reset /org/nemo/window-state/maximized
If you want to set a specific window size as your default you can

e.g

Code: Select all

dconf write /org/nemo/window-state/geometry "'1300x800+48+80'"
2) Make relevant lock directories

Code: Select all

sudo mkdir -p /etc/dconf/db/local.d/locks

Code: Select all

sudo mkdir -p /etc/dconf/profile
3) Write the lock and profile files - both of these are single copy/paste commands.

Code: Select all

sudo tee /etc/dconf/db/local.d/locks/00_nemo_window_state <<'EOB'
/org/nemo/window-state/geometry
/org/nemo/window-state/maximized
EOB

Code: Select all

sudo tee /etc/dconf/profile/user <<'EOB'
user-db:user
system-db:local
EOB
4) Update dconf

Code: Select all

sudo dconf update
To remove the lock.

Code: Select all

sudo rm /etc/dconf/db/local.d/locks/00_nemo_window_state

Code: Select all

sudo dconf update
