Ctrl + Page Up (or Page Down) does not work <SOLVED>

Ctrl + Page Up (or Page Down) does not work <SOLVED>

About a month ago these very frequently used keyboard shortcuts stopped working. It happened on both my machines so I guess it is due to some update. It started with 19.3 but the problem still persists after the upgrade to 20.

Some interesting details:
  • Ctrl + Home and Ctrl + End work
  • No keyboard shortcut is assigned to Ctrl + Page Up nor Ctrl + Page Down
  • I can assign these combinations as a keyboard shortcut so the system can read these combinations (so it is not a HW issue)
  • It does not work everywhere, e.g. trying to switch tabs in Terminal or Chrome
I would be very happy for any help, thank you.

In your terminal if you go to Edit > Preferences > Shortcuts are Ctrl+PgUp/PgDn still set for switching tabs?

I don't know what else it could be. I'd suggest to try on a new user account. Open Users & Groups from your menu and make a test account. Log out and log in to the newly created test account. Check if Ctrl+PgUp/PgDn works in the terminal on that. If it works the issue is with some user preference on your own account. If it doesn't work it is some system-wide issue.

Great tip, thanks, it works with the new user. Any suggestion? :)

BTW as I wrote in the original post, it happened on both my computers, so I would guess that there are much more users affected. But it looks like no one else is complaining, it's weird.

Good to know it's not a system-wide issue. That doesn't bring us closer to what is interfering with Ctrl+PgUp/PgDn though. It must be some changed user setting or program/applet/whatever you're using on your account that wasn't present on the test account and that captures that keyboard combination or interferes with it. Doesn't bring anything to mind for me what it could be.

Have you set changed or added any non-standard keyboard shortcuts in Cinnamon Keyboard setting that use the Ctrl and/or PgUp/PgDn keys? Did you add any applets/desklets/extension to Cinnamon? Do you have any programs running in the background that may be listening to key presses? Like clipboard managers or something.

Yes, it's QRedshift applet! They have added this shortcut in the latest version. Thank you very much for your help!
