[Solved] A bug with multiple screens?
Hello,
Since a few weeks I have three screens, a '24 HD on the left, and 2x 32' WQHD in the middle and right. And have set them as follows: Normally I see this: But when switching between the open apps with "Coverflow (3D)" I see this:
I use Coverflow that is already installed on Cinnamon (Start > Windows > Alt+Tab > Alt-Tab switcher Style > Coverflow 3D Is this a low priority bug, or have I set my settings a bot wrong?
Solution: Do not use Coverflow 3D, but Compiz for example...

What happened a few weeks ago on your system that might be a factor in this change?

Re: A bug with multiple screens?
Sorry for this delay. I forgot about this... Trying to recreate this, because I did a clean install to get 20.1
EDIT: Windows > Alt-Tab > Coverflow 3D and multiple programs open, did the trick. Same results, this time with LibreOffice and Zotero open, and trying to switch with Alt+Tab. I have a print screen of it, but now I have some troubles with GIMP, with unmet dependencies. Food for another thread...
BTW, In case you have noticed the high use of my CPU and RAM, I have Boinc running on the back ground...

Because I get the very same results on another install, without messing around, I think it is a bug in the Coverflow3D program with multiple monitors. But here it goes:

Re: A bug with multiple screens?
I tried searching for the product and all I found that seems to fit what you have described is this link Cover Flow. I notice in the description "For Linux it is possible to switch between different programs in cover-flow style using the composition and window manager Compiz or KDE's KWin (Cover-Switch version 4.1 or higher).". If that is correct, then possibly because Cinnamon uses the windows manager muffin, there may be enough differences in the windows managers that it is causing the output you are seeing. There is no option to change windows managers in Cinnamon.
System:
Kernel: 5.4.0-67-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 9.3.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 4.8.6
wm: muffin 4.8.1 dm: LightDM 1.30.0 Distro: Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa
base: Ubuntu 20.04 focal
I realize I may be completely wrong in the app you are using. If you would provide a link to how you obtained it, I will take a look and see if there is anything in the product compared to your system specs which might be causing the issue. Perhaps there might be some settings in Coverflow which can be set to make sure it takes advantage of the graphics drivers your system has.

Re: A bug with multiple screens?
Thanks again for your quick reply. This time, I haven't forgot you.
On Cover Flow, I have not installed anything to do this. All I did was going to Start menu > Windows > Alt-Tab > Coverflow, thus a possible setting that comes with Cinnamon itself. For the record I am using Mint 20.1 Cinnamon edition.
Thus, if the Coverflow in Cinnamon is the very same as Cover Flow you have referred to...

Have I therefore found a bug in Cinnamon?

Thus to inform Cover Flow is the right thing to do? On my way in a few hours...

Re: A bug with multiple screens?
Probably not because I doubt they'll be interested. As SMG told you, "For Linux it is possible to switch between different programs in cover-flow style using the composition and window manager Compiz or KDE's KWin".
Both of those are old technology. I doubt the developers will care that their application doesn't work with other window managers. Still, there's no harm in trying.
Re: A bug with multiple screens?
I am familiar with Compiz, see my thread on PbP. Thus thanks, I will get familiar with it sooner than I thought.
Re: A bug with multiple screens?
CoverFlow 3D is offered as a setting in Cinnamon, so I would think it would fall into the category of a Cinnamon bug. However, now I'm puzzled as to why it is offered in Cinnamon if the prior information I found indicates it only works with those couple windows managers.
I searched on Coverflow on the Cinnamon Issues page for open and closed issues and there is a list of items, so I would guess that is where you would want to report it.

Re: A bug with multiple screens?
Goodness me. My apologies to the OP. I went looking for it but couldn't find it in my 20.1.
Thanks for the correction.
Re: A bug with multiple screens?
It's one of the Alt -Tab Switcher styles. I didn't realize that yesterday and didn't find it either. That's why I went searching for it. I found it this morning when I kept find more webpages saying it was a part of Mint Cinnamon.Kadaitcha Man wrote: ⤴Fri Mar 19, 2021 9:00 am I went looking for it but couldn't find it in my 20.1.

Re: A bug with multiple screens?
If I may speak for all newbies, you are welcome...
But ontopic, Coverflow 3D does not work with multiple screens on Cinnamon it seems. After creating yet another issue on GitHub, I will get comfort with Compiz.

Re: A bug with multiple screens?
Saw the bug report this morning. Just for general info, the coverflow option has been built into Cinnamon pretty much from the beginning. The problem with troubleshooting this particular but is very few people have a monitor setup quite like that to duplicate it. And sometimes that's what it takes to figure out what's going on and fix it

Re: A bug with multiple screens?
Thanks for the info, JosephM.
The confusing part to me was the initial description of the option:
Windows > Alt-Tab > Coverflow 3D
instead of the actual:
Windows > Atl-Tab > Alt-tab switcher style > Coverflow 3D

Re: A bug with multiple screens?
I think it dates all the way back before Cinnamon. When we still had MGSE. For those that don't know it was gnome shell with mint extensions.

Re: A bug with multiple screens?
Sounds interesting, that MGSE stuff.
Although the problem with Coverflow is not solved, the issue itself is solved by not using Coverflow...
Thus thanks...

Just noticed that I have exactly the same results with Timeline (3D).
Thus Start menu > Windows > Alt-Tab > Alt-Tab switcher style > Coverflow 3D OR Timeline 3D results in the exactly the same bug...
More a Mint, than a Coverflow (3D)/Timeline (3D) bug?
