Everything you do? That's not how it should be. It should only be asking for a password when you do things that make changes to the system, such as updating, and installing software. So if it's asking for your password when you do other things than making changes to the system, something is wrong.

As an experimenter you will be changing several aspects in your system that will require root (admin) permissions, no doubt seems repetitive
during setup--but do you really want an internet facing computer running in root mode 24/7 ?
As many of us--you will come to understand this most important aspect of Linux security

I will put this to you very simply.

This is the built in security of a Linux Operating System.

ANYTHING that requires a change in the kernel and operating system itself REQUIRES an authentication so as to confirm that this is coming from the OWNER/USER, and not from an unkown, outside, entity such as a virus, trojan horse, ransomwear, browser highjacker, malware etc...If you are installing, uninstalling, etc. of different softwares and experimenting with your Linux operating system, this is insuring that the orders are coming directly from YOU, not some bogus, false, unauthorised source.

This is the very reason why Linux Operating Systems are the most secure computer operating systems that exist and why we do not have the same problems as Windows, etc.

That password is saving you from all of the "UGLY" that infects computer systems...This is one of the many reasons we tell people that "Linux is NOT Windows"...Your better protected from Windows type problems this way...This is also the reason that ALL 500 hundred of the Super Computers in the world are ALL linux based computer systems as well as being some of the most secure computer operating systems in the world...DAMIEN

I don't advocate disabling security and running everything as root but you could do one of three things:

a) Set a root password and log in as root.
b) Simplify your password to a single character.
c) Create an admin user without a password.

Im glad that you never baby sat my kids for me...lol...Isnt giving the "Keys to the Kingdom" like giving a 5 year old child a can of gasoline and a book of matches, when we give a newcomer the knowledge and ability to self emmolate himself in like fashion ???...Lol...lol...DAMIEN

Then the sensible solution is to set your password to one that is short, like 5 digits, so you don't mind typing it again and again; once you are settled in, you'll find yourself typing it a lot less often, and then you can set it to something more secure again.

In case it helps: it's typical for newcomers to feel about the need to enter your password exactly the way you've been feeling. It goes away. We almost all experienced it.

Question:
"How disable continuous passord request?"

Answer:
As authentication by password is only requested
a) during logging on to the system
b) when unlocking the screensaver / lock-screen
c) whenever you try to apply systemwide changes to configuration or software
the only reasonable way of disabling these password requests, without sacrificing the security of your system and of your sensitive data, is by shutting down the machine completely and then never starting it up again.

More constructive answer:
Whenever you have just installed Linux Mint from scratch and are in the process of configuring your system to your liking, you will very very likely frequently change systemwide settings and add or remove system-wide installed software.
As a consequence, it is normal behaviour that during this early phase in your system's life you will be presented the authentication dialogue very frequently and that you have to enter your password frequently.
Simply do it, instead of wasting your time on pointless whining.
Once the system has been set up the way you want, password dialogues will occur rarely only in everyday life. No need to waste time on trying to get rid of them.

This is my personal point of view as a long-time computer user only.

Linux is not Windows, you can do whatever you want with your system, even make it unsafe :D

Run this command in terminal and you won't be asked for password in graphical environment and terminal:

Code: Select all

printf '%s\n' '[admin]' \
'Identity=unix-user:0;unix-group:sudo;unix-group:admin' \
'Action=*' 'ResultActive=yes' \
| sudo tee /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/admin.pkla \
&& printf '%s\n' '%sudo ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL' \
'%admin ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL' \
| sudo tee /etc/sudoers.d/admin \
&& sudo chmod 440 /etc/sudoers.d/admin
Run this command if you want to go back to password:

Code: Select all

sudo sh -c 'cd /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/ \
&& rm admin.pkla' \
&& sudo sh -c 'cd /etc/sudoers.d/ && rm admin'

Luca.

It is normal to have to enter a password frequently as a new user. Although you have been told how to change that requirement please do not do so unless you are prepared for the damage to your OS that will be caused. The cure is far worse than the illness.

first of all, I want to thank everyone who answered, but you, in particular, this is exactly the answer I wanted to get, thank you
I would like to make a clarification, I have been using linux for a month, but I have known windows since it came out, I am a repair technician and network configurator, of multifunction photocopiers for 33 years, I also have ricoh certifications on security and networks, I know the risks, but now I'm doing some experimentation, the day I tried everything I wanted to try, I will reactivate the password request as soon as I have found a stable configuration, I have already made some snapshots of the disk, and anyway is the laptop at home
best regards to all
