Edit Menu Items

Post by tonyburnaby »

Hi,

I have two computers with Cinnamon and Mate installed, I noticed that on
Mate I am able to edit or delete all menu items, but on Cinnamon, I am only
able to edit or delete menu items that I created, not for anything else. I didn't
get any error messages, for example, if I select an menu item and hit
'Delete' button, the button is active and can be pressed, but nothing was
changed.

Is that the way Cinnamon is or there is something I could do to get around?

Thanks!

Not sure what your goal is here.

If you're only trying to get rid of the icon's in your menu. You can right click the menu Icon on your panel and click "Configure" > "Open the menu editor". Within the menu editor you can remove the check marks to the left of an icon/item to remove it from your viewing in your menu.

Deleting items just because you don't want them there sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

I agree, Jeff, simply delete a menu item is a bad idea, my main goal is to edit the title
and descriptions.

The check boxes work for me, if I uncheck a menu item, then it won't show in the menu.

I really like the Mate way, that I could edit any menu items, not just those I created.

I am using Cinnamon and I can easily delete or modify any item or menu, even those that came by default. Either you have a problem with your system or you are doing something wrong.

In Cinnamon:
right click the menu > click Open the menu editor
uncheck the boxes of the applications you don't want to see in the menu
If you want to change the name of an app
right click on the app the change the name in the Name box however something must go in the Name box

Thanks for all the replies, guys.

I tried a few things today, and realized the issue only apply to
'Wine' category, and doesn't effect anything else. It might be
restricted by wine program, I am not sure.

If I copy any items in Wine category into any other categories,
then I can modify/delete that newly copied item.
