FAT32 partition locked <SOLVED>
One of my drives, FAT32, shows the lock icon on all the sub-directories. All the folders and their files are now read-only, though I had given all permissions to user and group. I'm dual booting with Win10. The 'turn on fast startup' option in Win 10 has been disabled. But that didn't make a difference. I tried Chmod but it hasn't worked too. A folder I had deleted earlier still shows up when 'ls -l' command is used, but its attributes are shown as d????????? ? ? ? ?. This folder seems to be interfering with Cinnamon, but I'm unable to remove it completely.

Re: input/output error message
Where are you mounting it?
In nemo if you 'open as root' can you edit/delete files?
Your topic title is unhelpful and may not attract the help you want. Suggest you change it to something like 'fat32 partition locked'.

Re: input/output error message
Your physical disk is probably dying. Check it with windows or gparted.
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?

Re: FAT32 partition locked
Thanks, I've changed the subjectline as suggested.
The drive was mounted on /media. I'm not using nemo, but I had used chmod as superuser from the Terminal.

Re: FAT32 partition locked
I booted into Win10 and then back into Mint and the problem has been solved! I guess it must have been some error caused by win 10. Thanks to both of you for responding.

Re: FAT32 partition locked <SOLVED>
Your disk was locked by Windows fast start up.
Hence you needed to close it out of a Windows with fast start up turned off..
