How to close(or hide) nm-applet icon on the right bottom? (Cinnamon 5.0)

Post by curlywei »

Picture as link

nm-applet icon appeared on bottom after I upgrade cinnamon version to 5.0

I've tried to remove this cinnamon-applet
but raw nm-applet icon appeared on bottom as picture

Actually, I use systemd-networked to configure IP and DNS, not Network Manager
Network Manager seems necessary package for cinnamon,
so I can't remove it with my package manager (pacman)

Is there a solution to remove or hide the nm-applet icon?

Having the exact same issue. I don't even want NetworkManager at all, let alone the ugly applet icon cluttering up my panel.

In terminal try

Code: Select all

systemctl disable network-manager.service
Reboot

Doesn't help.

The problem isn't disabling Network Manager itself, it's that when it's disabled, the panel shows this extremely ugly Network Manager Applet which you can't remove (as shown in the image of the original post).

Might just have to wait for it to be fixed in Cinnamon 5 as I see it has been reported on github

Great, just checked it now myself; thanks. I guess it's time to play the waiting game for now.

Hi everyone:
Finally, I found the solution here
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Cinnam ... ger_applet
See the chapter `Disable the NetworkManager applet` .

Many thanks for posting this. I'm running Cinnamon 5.2.7 and it's still not letting the user remove the nm applet via the panel.
