When I go to Menu > Logout > Switch User it just drops me at the lock screen.
What could be wrong?

I have the same problem with the menu and have no idea why.
However user switching itself does work and I have been using the tty switching keyboard shortcuts, eg. ctrl-alt-F8, ctrl-alt-F7, etc. as a workaround.
