Version: Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamom
Hi there,
after one of my recent updates I face the following problem:
Neither shutting down nor logging off does work. The dialogs open, however when I press Log off user, reboot or shutdown nothing does happen. Strangely enough, Change user does work.
I can terminate the session from a shell using loginctl, but this is likely not the desired way.
Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the forum, jensen4.
Did you upgrade from Mint 20.1 or was it a fresh install of Mint 20.2? Please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal:
inxi -Fxxxrz
Click
</>
from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code markers and paste the results of the command between the code markers
Results
. This will let us know how the Mint version you installed sees your hardware.A woman typing on a laptop with LM20.3 Cinnamon.
Re: Logout not working/not reacting
The standard answer to all these issues is 'restore from a timeshift snapshot'. On the basis that you probably don't have one, when you get up and working again, start using it. New to linux - at some point you will break it, timeshift is your saviour (usually).

Re: Logout not working/not reacting
This was an upgrade from Mint 20.1 , however the issue occured after some intermediate update while being on 20.1.
Here is my inxi output
Regarding timeshift: Actually I do use it but unfortunately not before every update, and honestly I did not dare to restore so far

Re: Logout not working/not reacting
With a 4-month-old bios, I think you should be using the 5.11 kernel, seeing as the 5.8 kernel expires in August. It can be installed from Update Manager -> View -> Linux Kernels -> click on 5.11 in left column -> click on top kernel in right column -> click on Install button
If you have found the solution to your initial post, please open your original post, click on the pencil, and add (Solved) to the Subject, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.
Re: Logout not working/not reacting
Thanks for the hint. Updating the kernel did however not work for this issue.
Re: Logout not working/not reacting
Is that user (the one to which you change) able to shut down? I wonder if permissions were somehow changed for a user rather than a system update being the issue.

Re: Logout not working/not reacting
If you have a snapshot before the upgrade - even WAY before the upgrade - it will probably work. You will have to upgrade the kernel again.Regarding timeshift: Actually I do use it but unfortunately not before every update, and honestly I did not dare to restore so far
