Window is only apparently maximized

Post by palimmo »

A question regarding windows and windows buttons (close window “X” in particular) in Cinnamon:

Am I the only one, that gets often windows that are apparently maximized but in fact they are not?
It is matter of 1-2mm.. not more.
That would be not a huge problem… if it would not be tricky to get the “x” button at the first try with my cursor when attempting to close the window.
That is really annoying.
I think the area of the “X” button should be bigger and better highlighted when active. Event better: the window should be correctly maximized!
Thanks.

EDIT 11.11.21
Steps to reproduce it:

1. Launch Nemo.

2. Open a .pdf by double click it.

3. Once opened, if the window is not maximized, click on the maximize icon (beside the "x" button) to maximized the window.

4. Once maximized, close the document (with the "x").

5. In Nemo open another .pdf document.

6. Result: the window of the .pdf document seems completely maximized, but it is not! If you go eactly in the corner, the cursor give you the option to adjust the window size instead of the option to close it.
To close it you have actually to move back 1 mm to the "x" button.

Oddity:
If you reopen the same document after you have manually maximized it, it will be correctly displayed.
On the other hands with new documents you will mostly get windows that are "almost" correctly maximized.

Affected apps:
apparently only xreader.

No, you are not the only one. They really only bother me when I am in remote desktop (Remmina), because it can be hard to resize the window without accidentally closing the Remmina window.

As a workaround, do you have an idea how to get an "easy clickable" X-button?

The workaround by smurphos (big buttons) gives you just a bigger "x" but unfortunately does not solve the annoying problem.

EDIT:
Steps to reproduce the bug: see OP.
