Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon Sleepmode doesn't start

Post by mint_-_user »

Hello!
When trying to put my PC to sleep (save session to RAM) through the Cinnamon Menu the screen just gets locked, but the PC doesn't go to sleep. But if I execute pm-suspend via a terminal the sleep mode starts without any problems.
A thing to mention is that I switched from Linux Mint 18 and copied the .config directory to the new Linux Mint 20.2 system.
Any solution ideas? Thank you.

Please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal: inxi -Fxxxrz
Click </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code markers and paste the results of the command between the code markers
Results
. This will let us know how Mint sees your hardware.

I had hoped the changes in the latest Nvidia driver (which you already have installed below) would help with issue related to suspension, but it appears it has not helped in your case. Quite a few people with Nvidia drivers have had either problems getting the computer to suspend or getting the system to resume from suspension.

Graphics:
Device-1: NVIDIA GK104 [GeForce GTX 760] vendor: Gigabyte driver: nvidia
v: 470.74 bus ID: 01:00.0 chip ID: 10de:1187

In this post roblm mentions using sudo systemctl suspend to suspend. Here is an explanation of the difference pm-suspend vs systemctl suspend?. Mint uses systemd, so I would presume sudo systemctl suspend is the preferred command.

I do not yet know enough about how the Mint buttons are coded to know if something else can be done to get around this issue. Maybe someone else will know.

Thank you very much. It's good to know the problem is caused by the NVIDIA driver. I think I just will live with the fact I have to enter my password for sleep mode, until a new driver gets released.
