Strange 'Smart Common Interface' icon has appeared on the panel and can hang the system

Strange 'Smart Common Interface' icon has appeared on the panel and can hang the system

Suddenly - though after I'd rearranged icons on my panel - I see this icon:

Left-clicking it does nothing. Right-clicking it produces an 'about' option, which I selected. The result was an information box and an unresponding system. I took a photo using my phone but the photo did not come out properly. Still, I recall that the program/applet/whatever was identifying itself as something like ''Smart Common Interface'.

Can anyone shed light?

EDIT: ah, I've managed to generate this window from the applet (and without hanging the system):
