</solved> Panel Icon Count Limited

I just jumped from 19.3 to 20.2 I tried the upgrade but that caused more problems than I cared to tweak. I then went and made a boot disk and pulled a clean install of 20.2 and things were better. I have both monitors, the printer, and almost everything else going. My last few tweaks are my scanner, Wine, and of all things my panel. I like panel icons, it is quick and easy to switch between the multiple programs I run on multiple displays with a click on the panel instead of returning to the desktop or going through the menu. When tax season is in full swing I will have my tax program, my bookkeeping program, multiple tabs on my pdf reader, email, and discord in the background. I multitask folks.

My left panel has decided it only wants to contain 3 program pins next to the menu. I had something like 7 or 8 in 19.3 so what changed, or what did I miss in the upgrade so I can get my quick clicks back please, and thank you!

Thanks - so the applet providing your app panel icons is the 'grouped-window-list' - it combines the functions of a window-list and basic panel launchers - in previous versions you may have been using separate panel launchers and window-list applets - you can switch to that older config manually via the Applets settings module or by switching to Traditional layout in the Welcome Screen app..

Grouped window list should show 'pinned apps' permanently as-well as icons for running but unpinned apps. You can pin apps from the menu (right-click > add to panel), or by right-click on the running app icon > pin to panel.. There shouldn't be any limit on the number of pinned apps other than space on your panel.

So just to confirm if you do it from the menu an existing pinned app is getting replaced? That's not expected behaviour, but we can investigate the cause.

I'd start with the output of these commands

Check permissions and ownership of the grouped-window-list config file

Correct. If I go to the menu and right-click an app it will drop one from the original list of three. I can only have show desktop and two other icons if I go through the menu. If I open the program and right-click it while active on the panel I can pin other programs next to those three.

Thanks - the only thing I can see odd there is that you've got an old config file present, but I don't think that is causing the symptoms.

(/home/mrs-j/.cinnamon/configs/grouped-window-list@cinnamon.org/2.json is the defunct one).

I note you have several flatpak apps pinned - it's it pinning a flatpak app specifically from the menu that causes the issue?

I had to work to find a not-flathub app to test that idea with.

I had originally pulled Discord off flathub but it gave me problems and I direct downloaded it off the Discord website at that point. That icon pinned to the start panel with no problems. Maybe it is just flatpak?!

What I Found to be the best way to add to the Windowed group is to add [pin] them to the grouped panel *while* running and not right-clicking add to panel from the app menu while not running.
I only have 1 flatpak app running in the group panel; notepadqq
