Im using Mint 20.3 Cinnamon on my daily machine, and it works great.
Recently I installed kubuntu, newest release, on a second laptop and I just love the plasma log-in screen, where the individual user pics show up.
This seems to be impossible for Mint 20.3, as there are no settings AFAIK to bring user pics to the login-screen.
Is there a way to do it anyhow?

Try with Mint menu - Administration - Login Window.

I know that settings page but there is no setting for a user picture in it.
Just for clarification: I'm looking for the users avatar to show up on login page, not the individual background.

Menu >Preferences>Account details click on photo and set whatever photo or icon you want from there. It will be presented next time you log in. I'm Assuming your using Cinnamon desktop. But it should be similar on other also. Good luck.

Re: How to obtain user pic on login-screen?
No, it will not show. I already set an user-avatar.
It shows only when you unlock an unlocked session, but not when initially logging in.
From what I've found and read so far, it seems that slick-greeter is not supposed to show avatars.
Re: How to obtain user pic on login-screen?
It works fine here and shows my avatar. Try using a separate photo see if that works. It shows gifs here without problems.

Re: How to obtain user pic on login-screen?
Take the image you want to use, ensure it is a square and 256x256 pixels in size, save it as a .PNG file.
Copy this .PNG to your $HOME folder.
Now rename it to ".face". It might "vanish" from view as it has become a "hidden file", but if you enable viewing hidden files in your file manager it will be there along with many other "dot-files" ... don't go removing any as you will mess up your system! Ctrl-H normally toggles this view.
Anyway, the .face file is your avatar at login.

Re: How to obtain user pic on login-screen?
You guys misunderstood OP's question. Setting avatar works for screen lock, but OP is asking about login screen.
Answer: Login screen (display manager) used by LM Cinnamon by default is called lightdm and as far as I know it doesn't support user "avatars", at least not by default and not without any major tweaks.

Yeah, my continuing research confirms this too. That's sad but I guess one can live with it.Mateusz Baran wrote: ⤴Tue Jan 18, 2022 11:21 am You guys misunderstood OP's question. Setting avatar works for screen lock, but OP is asking about login screen.

Thanks anyway.
