Welcome to the forum, mint newbee138.

I would first advise you to run all the updates in Update Manager. Your Cinnamon version is showing as 5.0.4 which was updated to a newer version soon after release and had several updates after that. Your system is also using an older version of Xorg, so please run all the updates. Perhaps that will clear your issue.

If not, the libinput drivers are the default touchpad drivers according to the Linux Mint 20.2 Uma Release Notes, so if they do not work, you would need to try different drivers. In the Touchpad drivers section of the release notes it indicates:
The default touchpad driver in this edition is "libinput" (provided by the xserver-xorg-input-libinput package).

If you experience problems with it, you can switch to another driver called "synaptics" (provided by the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package).

To know which driver is used by your input devices, run the following command:
grep -i "Using input driver" /var/log/Xorg.0.log

When both drivers are installed, "synaptics" takes priority.

To switch to the "synaptics" driver, install it with the command:

Code: Select all

apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Then log out and log back in.

To go back to using "libinput", simply remove the "synaptics" driver:

Code: Select all

apt remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Then log out and log back in.

Note: You can also try installing the "evdev" driver (provided by the xserver-xorg-input-evdev).

Unless you have a specific reason for using the 5.13 kernel on a 2009 machine, I suggest you go back to 5.4 kernel.
