Refresh rate issues on dual monitor setup

Post by Roast »

Hello! I'm new to linux mint, just switched from Windows and I face a problem. When I configure my main display to 165hz and the second to 60hz (max), they're both working on 60hz. Tried with "xrandr -r 165" and it worked for the main monitor, now its smooth and excellent, but the second monitor just turns off and doesnt work. In the display settings it says it doesnt work, so I turn it to active, apply settings and both screens go back to 60hz again even though the display settings say that my main screen works on 165hz when it doesnt.. :?

Not sure I could solve this but I can say there's no useful system info there at all for anyone else to go on. Copy/paste the text output on inxi -Fxxxrz run in the terminal.

Welcome to the forum, Roast.

Your inxi information indicates you have a laptop, so can you please clarify what is the "main monitor" and what is the "second monitor". Are either of those the laptop screen?

Your computer has a Ryzen 3000 series and improvements for that CPU were made in the Linux kernel after version 5.4 was released. I'd recommend upgrading to the 5.13 kernel which is in Update Manager. That kernel will also have newer graphics drivers and may help with this issue.

Instructions for upgrading to the 5.13 kernel:
  • Open Update Manager.
  • Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue.
  • Make sure 5.13 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An "Install" button will appear.
  • Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active.
Please also provide the output of xrandr and enclose the results in code tags as described in this topic Displaying terminal output in a post.
