Hello Forum,
I just registered, so hello to all
I recently installed a current version of Linux Mint => 20.3 Cinnamon.
In my past Linux Mint Cinnamon Install all office files in Nemo had the
same icon, associated to the application.
So all spread sheets had the same green libre office icon in Nemo and
also on the desktop. All writer files had the same blue icon. and so on.
Now Nemo and Desktop show part of the content of the file
as the icon. So fancy but not so useful for me. Is there a way to get back to older look?
Thank you.
Greetings, Krizz

Try using a different theme. Themes control such things.

Re: Icons for File types change in Linux Mint Cinnamon in Nemo
I had not noticed this previously since I save my documents in MS Office DOCX & XLSX format by default.
But yes, you're right, .odt and .ods documents do show a thumbnail view instead of a generic icon.
I very much doubt that this would change by using a different theme.
The best solution I can offer is to turn off thumbnails. In Nemo, go to Preferences, then Preview, and set "Show thumbnails" to NO. But that turns off ALL thumbnails including pictures.
I'll see if I can find a better way.
EDIT:
As root user, if you go to folder /usr/share/thumbnailers and rename file gsf-office.thumbnailer to gsf-office.thumbnailer_backup, that should stop thumbnailers for any of the office types listed in that file. Basicly open office/libreoffice files.
EDIT: I'm not sure if this solution works retrospectively, for existing files, unless you open and re-save them.
Linux Mint 21 Cinnamon household.

Thanks tonywhelan, this works fine for me! To be honest ... the tumbnail view of an image / movie ... wont miss much. Might be different for others, but I can do without it.tonywhelan wrote: ⤴Sun Oct 09, 2022 12:23 am The best solution I can offer is to turn off thumbnails.
