Cinnamon crashes

Post by otibag »

Hi: I'm having a problem with Cinnamon desktop, crashing continuously, every two or three times when I open a file with the file navigator (it's the default, I'm guessing it's Nemo). The OS offers to restart Cinnamon, and if I do it in the next file operation crashes again and so on. If I don´t restart Cinnamon, the PC continuous working good, with Mate desktop, I guess. But I'm used to Cinnamon...

Any clue to fix this bug?
Eventually, it's possible to start Mint directly with Mate?
Thanks to all.

Have you added any applets or spices?

There is a hidden file in your home directory .xsession-errors which should probably give some clues as to why it is crashing.

Hi, I tried to isolate a piece of this file, .xsession-errors, in the moment where the error happens. I attached hereto.
Some clue? Is it possible to reinstall Cinnamom?
Thanks.

When Cinnamon crashes, there will usually be lines in the file indicating it has crashed. There are no lines in what you posted indicating Cinnamon crashed. What you posted looks like normal start-up information except for these lines:

Code: Select all

which my translator indicates is:

Code: Select all

Cannot open file *.desktop /usr/share/applications/caja-browser.desktop for panel launcher: No such file or directory
Cannot open file *.desktop /usr/share/applications/mate-terminal.desktop for panel launcher: No such file or directory
I do not know why your system would be looking for those panel launchers while doing a start-up of Cinnamon. Then after those lines Cinnamon restarts again, but it seems like it is continually restarting without crashing. :?

Was this a fresh install of LM21 or was it an in-place upgrade from LM20.3?

Can you create a new user and log in as that user to see if the new user has the same problem?
