Way to customize URL link names on desktop?

Post by Dave92f1 »

When I drag a URL from Chrome onto the desktop, I get a .desktop launcher called "Link to <webpage name>".

I'd like to not get the "Link to " prefix. I know I can just rename the launcher, but I don't want to have to - I want to configure the system so it just leaves that off. The name seems to be controlled by the "Name=" field in the .desktop file.

Is there a way to configure Cinnamon (or maybe Nemo) to change this?

I did a grep on "Link to" and discovered there's a file /usr/share/mint-artwork/xfce/Thunar/uca.xml which appears as if it may let you customize this in Thunar and/or Mint (I haven't tried it). That file contains:

Code: Select all

<command>ln -s %f 'Link to %n'</command>
But I'm using Cinnamon and Nemo (not Mint/Thunar); for now anyway. Is there an equivalent way to customize this for Cinnamon/Nemo?
