Virtual Desktops on multiple monitors

Post by skylark »

Hello world.
I have the newest mint os with Cinnamon. I have 2 monitors and came from the Mac os. On the mac I had the ability to separately on each monitor have several virtual desktops that I could switch between and not change the other monitors desktops.
In mint if I switch between desktops on one monitor the other monitor also switches. Is there a setting that can disconnect the two monitors? That is one of the few things I miss about the mac. That and parallels coherence mode on programs running in full virtual os. They really need to port over to linux.

I am guessing no.

I can see why you miss that feature.

Welcome to the forum, skylark.

When you use the term "desktops", are you referring to "Workspaces"?

Yup and yup. Apple has absolutely zero interest in porting anything to Linux BTW.

I think it would be more that linux is not wanting to port that feature into linux. that already have it to were you can keep your second monitor workspace static while the main work spaces change. Why not this.

You might want to take a look at LeftWM. It has 9 tags/desktops, and I think you can assign more if needed. You can put any tag on any monitor.

What Workspace App settings have you tried and how do they compare to what you want to have happen?
