Still no but it's going to be in the complete version. Keep waiting and updating!tbonney wrote:I'm trying out Cinnamon and I can't seem to find a setting to move the panel and menu to the top of the screen rather than the default bottom. Is that possible?

Thanks! Maybe it is just all my years of working on Macs. But launch bars on the bottom of the screen feel too Windows like to me. I'll wait patiently for the update.

that's understandable for you mac guys...but us ex-windows fellas generally prefer the bottom panel
that feature (move to top) will eventually be available in Cinnamon...just not at the moment...

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon
As far as I can recollect, Windows panel could be placed on the top as well. Something that I will never, ever accept, in any OS, at least not until this is the only option available. And I can't possibly describe my happiness when I logged into Cinnamon for the first time and saw there is one and only - bottom panel.
Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon
#2 has been consistant quirk shall we say. For me, when I first upgraded to 1.1.3 Places was there in the menu one day and then next. Then, a bit later, it was back and it's been there ever since. If you're not running the default Cinnamon theme then switch back to it. If you are then switch to a diffrent theme and switch back. These are just suggestions as i really don't know what brought it back for me. I had logged out into MATE to test something and then back into Cinnamon during the period Places was missing but I'm not saying that fixed it.pluraldave wrote:Better to start a new thread for specific issues rather than posting in a discussion thread.
1. Don't know.
3. a) Flick your mouse up into the top left corner to activate the overlay and then drag and drop the application onto the workspace you would like to move it to.
b) Use the keyboard shortcut ctrl+alt+shift + (left/right) depending on which way you want to move it.
In Gnome-shell workspaces are vertical so you can just drag up/down in the overlay mode (but not "normal" mode) but in Cinnamon the workspaces have been changed to horizontal so dragging doesn't work. I'd guess that this is something that will change as Cinnamon is developed.
ps: what happened to 2? :p
Fat lot of help I am, huh?

answering "Direct Rendering:Yes" should be OK ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_Rendering_Manager
Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon
usually yes , but i don't think it will be working if GLX Renderer : software rasterizer.olle wrote:answering "Direct Rendering:Yes" should be OK ?
This is "quote from mr. AlbertP in" Cinnamon NOT working :
Direct Rendering Yes does not prove that 3D is working. If the GLX Renderer is "Rasterizer" or "N/A" your graphics card lacks a 3D driver, or the driver is not working OK
Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon
So any tools then ?
Or just try and fail method ?
Edit:
Running
you must get "direct rendering" as the answer.
Running
you must get no answer.

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon
Does anybody besides me find the way the menu kind of blurs when you click on it while using the elementary theme annoying? Is it purposeful or a mistake (I guess only the author knows if it's purposeful, but still)?
Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon
Yeah that's not so well done - easy to change though:
open the theme css as root
find this bit
And change text-shadow to e.g. "...1px 1px;" instead of "...2px 2px".
open the theme css as root
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /usr/share/themes/'New Elements'/cinnamon/cinnamon.css
Code: Select all
.panel-button:active,
.panel-button:overview,
.panel-button:focus {
border-image: url("panel-button-border.svg") 10 10 0 2;
background-image: url("panel-button-highlight-wide.svg");
color: #333333;
text-shadow: black 0px 2px 2px;

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon
Exactly! The top panel like Unity and Gnome3 is a deal breaker for me, it is that annoying. When I heard that Top panel can not be placed down on Unity it was "FORMAT C" timecraig10x wrote:that's understandable for you mac guys...but us ex-windows fellas generally prefer the bottom panel

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon
I have added a Cinnamon section to this thread, currently contains these entries:
5. Cinnamon
a. What it is and how to install it
b. Configuring Cinnamon
c. How to install and change Cinnamon themes
d. Hide the workspace switcher
e. Remove the battery tray icon percentage indicator thing happening
f. Built-in desktop recording tool
g. Adding extensions in Cinnamon
If you have ideas or requests for more, I'm all ears
