Mouse

Post by peter steinmeijer »

Hello

After quite some years I'm using mint again.

Is there a way to personalize the mouse in Mint other than the ( very limited ) options in Mint ? An extension perhaps ? Anything ?

Peter.

Hi Peter

There is Imwheel, a command line tool that can be used to tweak the scroll speed of the mouse wheel. You can find it with the Software Manager.

Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia (Mate) 32-bit - Acer D250 Netbook (Intel Atom N270, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB SSD)
Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa (Mate) 64-bit - MacBook Pro 15" (Intel Core2 Duo, 8 GB RAM, 240 GB SSD) - with some separation difficulties...

Although peter asked about the mouse, an electronic gadget, I assumed what he really wanted to know how to alter was the cursor, the pointer visible on screen. The terms are often mixed.

You may be giving your age away (or maybe not). Technically, the cursor shows where input will occur. In older computers, it was flashing rectangle and input occurred inside the area covered by the rectangle. Modern computers use a vertical line that shows input will happen just after the line. The cursor moves forward as text is inputted.

The little arrow or or uppercase I with serifs that moves around when you move the mouse is, technically, called the mouse pointer although it is frequently (and erroneously) called the mouse cursor.

Btw, I had assumed he was asking about mouse behavior settings.

With respect the line in a text input field is normally referred to as a caret to distinguish it from the perfectly correct use of cursor for the 'mouse' pointer. (What do touchpad, trackball and trackpoint users call it  )

Peter - search in Software Manager for any of these packages and install to give you a wider choice of cursor themes.

oxygen-cursor-theme-extra
chameleon-cursor-theme
breeze-cursor-theme
crystalcursors
comixcursors

Smurphos I liked and installed one of the Oxygen cursor themes long before I realised it was one of yours. Very pleased with it.
