Mint-Y yellow theme?

Post by fblais »

Hi.
There's a yellow icon theme, in both Mint-X and Mint-Y, but no GTK theme that I see.
Is there a reason for not having one, please?

All the best!

Curious. I don't know but I've asked the designers. It's not in the source project so it's not that it was forgotten to install it or something, it really doesn't exist. For all the other colors there is both an icon and a control theme.

Indeed, very strange.
And the Mint-Y icon theme is quite recent if I'm not mistaken.
The Mint-X one was there since a while.

We discussed this some time ago, I guess it was on the LinuxMint Design Team, on Slack.

All the GTK variations are made of background accent color with a white lettering. If you had white letters on a yellow background you would get a very, very low color contrast. Yellow is, like, just as bright as white! Quick example: https://colorable.jxnblk.com/ffffff/ffff00

Try to read the small text in there... Impossible!

Thanks for answering!

And the yellow icon theme came about because -as I understand it- some people really wanted yellow and asked for it. Combined with a blue control theme it is somewhat similar to Windows explorer colors.

Salut Sébastien.
I see, thanks.
Could be okay with the dark theme though, no?

White letters on a colored background
White letters on a colored background

Salut François,

Same issue with the dark theme. If this yellow was to be treated just like the other color variations, it would be white lettering on a yellow background, and this doesn't work. Take, for example, Nemo file selection: that's white text on a colored background. It works great with blue, can be considered okay with some mint color, is energizing with orange, but it just wouldn't work with yellow. Just my own personal opinion. Of course, we could make an exception and have black text on a yellow background. Personally, I am not sure I would like the idea of stepping out of standards like that, making an exception for one color. And, technically, i don't know if it would be easy or not.

P.S.: I haven't forgot you would prefer icons made of some pure yellow, without any beige trace. I am still working on this, slowly. :)
