Post by overkill22 »

I would like to change the wallpaper automatically, but I'm not able to find where I can set the folder etc...

Thank you

Hello overkill22 and welcome to Linux Mint,

I don't believe mate has a native wallpaper changer in the default install neither does gnome 3.

But one alternative that I've found works pretty well is variety you can get it by following the instructions on this page.

Good Luck :)

I'm using Variety at the moment, it works good and smooth.
Nice program!
Thanx!

Dear,
Within the Cinamon DE, you can change the wallpaper and even to let change it every x minutes ...
You can import your own pictures, folders, ...
Within System Settings ... Background ...
Kind regards,
JP

Tried Variety via PPA and found it to be good. There's a few broken web image sources (for me at this moment) and the (non-slideshow) wallpaper cycling appears to be (regrettably) random only but the app has a ton of other options, including the CLI options while the app is running so if you don't like the current wallpaper you can (for exaple) bind something like "ctrl+delete" in your MATE keyboard shutcuts to variety -t to trash the current wallpaper.

Btw, did anyone notice anything "unusual" in ~/.config/variety/scripts/set_wallpaper? Please check that, I'd like to see what other peoples' file consists of.

I opened the same file with LO normally and didn't find a multitude of Chinese characters as opened in xed. Perhaps a character encoding bug in xed?
