two minor Mint panel/menu annoyances

Post by michaelzap » Thu Jan 14, 2016 12:15 pm

Just wondering how to fix a couple minor annoyances.

1. I have my Mate panel set to 24 pixels high, and when I click on the Mate menu it appears about 24 pixels above the panel with a space between it at the panel (and then will often jump back down when I roll over it). Any idea why this might happen? I am using Compiz to manager window decorations (to get snapping and scaling), but turning that off doesn't fix this.

2. I'm using a dark theme, and I have the panel set to use the theme's colors, but the clock text is still black (and therefore nigh unreadable). How can I change the color of the clock's text?

Thanks in advance for your tips!

to change the clock color, you may have to add these lines to the gtkrc file :

style "panel" = "dark"
{
xthickness = 0
ythickness = 0
text[NORMAL] = @fg_color_dark
text[ACTIVE] = "#ffffff"
}

where you set your own hex values for the text color

Thanks for your reply!

It turns out that I actually had a custom .gtkrc-2.0 file in my home directory (which I imagine I copied from a previous install). I edited it like so and now the clock appears the way that I want it to:
style "my-panel-clock"
{
fg[NORMAL] = "#eeeeee"
font_name = "dejavu sans 11"
}
widget "*.clock-applet-button.*" style "my-panel-clock"
Anyone have any ideas on my other annoyance?
