Vertex Theme

Post by chrisuk »

I've not seen this theme mentioned for a while... for those on the lookout for a new theme; I'm using this theme on LMDE2 and Manjaro. Should work with Cinnamon/MATE/XFCE. Themes for common Web Browsers are included. It's a well thought out theme - clean and looks good... great work by the author. Screenhots are at the bottom of the page.

Scroll down to the packages section to get the relevant prebuilt .deb.

Thanks for the heads up. Never knew this theme existed. I'm trying it out with LM18.2, it looks great. :)

I'm a big fan of Vertex. A refreshing change from all the cookie-cutter flat themes that seem to be all the rage these days.

Yeah, it's amazing how many themes there are, yet I've only ever liked a handful. Themes like Vertex mean I actually enjoying looking at the screen... some seriously strain my eyes.

I wouldn't try it with Cinnamon - Mint 18.1 or 18.2
18.1 brought significant changes, with 18.2 now using Cinnamon 3.4.4
This theme works with all versions up to 3.22.

Mint 18.2 (Cinnamon 3.4.4) uses Gtk 3.18.9

You are right the 3.22 on that page referred to GTK, and I was thinking Cinnamon.
Nonetheless, I took a look at the cinnamon.css included in the Vertex theme, and it definitely has not been updated to be compatible with cinnamon 3.2. (MInt 18.1) or cinnamon 3.4.4 (Mint 18.2).
The .popup-menu-boxpointer is still being used in that theme, and the new .menu section is missing.
So my warning stands.

Its been 24 hours roundabouts I've been using it with 18.2 and I haven't come across any issues yet. Any examples you could give?

Yes V3.4.4 for around two days its been running Vertex theme and I haven't encounter any issues. Strangely if you can believe it, I made a post on these forums about Cinnamon randomly crashing when I upgraded my 18.1 install to 18.2, but since trying Vertex theme I haven't had a crash in two days, and this machine runs 24/7.

Glad you have a more stable system.
The thing that might impact you is if you try to set up vertical panels. The vertical panels were introduced in Cinnamon with version 3.2 (Mint 18.1). The code for those is missing from older Cinnamon themes, like Vertex.
Another problem (that frustrated me, but you might never care about... ) is that my Mint 18 Rainy Day Blues theme had a graphical background for the main Menu, but that graphic would not display on Mint 18.1's Menu, until I had done a lot of experimenting and finally found the voodoo to make it display in the new cinnamon.css code.
