I've never done this before , so can someone point me out to make my Mint desktop look very nice?
Any tips to do this?

one of the great things about XFCE is that it is very customizable, One of the first things I do is add a panel at the top so I can have a separate panel for launching apps. (I set this one to auto hide) Also I usually add the weather app to the bottom panel. and set the clock to 24 hour time. All done very simply with right clicks on the original panel.
here are a couple of web pages with good hints on how to customize your desktop.

and this one is good also.

Just google around you'll find plenty more.
Enjoy!
