Mint 19 Cinnamon Changing Colours

Post by steocullen91 » Fri Oct 19, 2018 12:53 pm

I'm just wondering if there's an easier way to customise the theme colours on Cinnamon to your liking or if the best way is just backing up the themes css file and experimenting?

I basically want a solid colour (no gradient) and was using Mint-Y while making some changes. If it has to be done this way then I guess taking notes along with exerimaning with the hex and decimal values is the best way. I was using #00B000 to try get a vibrant green that isn't too bright (#00FF00 would just be hard to read) but I'm just wondering if this is the best method considering some values are harder to find. Thanks.

If you want to make major changes to Mint Y it is probably easier to work with the source code (which is in sass) and use the tools in the source code to recompile the theme after editing, Check the various Readme's in the source for guidance. The source-code as linked will only build Mint 19 compatible versions

Or if you are not tied to Mint Y give the Oomox GUI theme designer a try - it's available in Software Manager as a Flatpak.

Thanks, I'll look into it. I've taken an interest in using Linux lately and just want to try learn some of these basic things about it :)

i like green but it's only good in contrast with dark themes where i use #90EE90 maybe you can change the overall bright WHITE of #FFFFFF to #EFEFEF this way you give your green a bit of darker background to work with

Yeah I agree with that. I like how pure green #00FF00 looks, but it's too bright to use because with so much onscreen it hurts your eyes and you can't read the white fonts that overlay it. That's why I'm using a darker green instead for the taskbar (or whatever it's named on Linux).

I'll try out what you said and see how it looks :)
