How to adjust title bar height

Post by geronimus »

I installed Vanessa and so far I was not able to find a setting that reduces the height of the title bar. To me the bar is a waste of space, and in Firefox as well as in Thunderbird I enabled a setting that gets rid of the bar altogether.
I tried to reduce the height by adjusting the font size - but this only makes the print smaller, the title bar does not change with it. In Una it was at least possible to reduce the height by selecting another style but this does not seem to be possible anymore (or I didn't find the right setting).
Does somebody have an idea what else I could try?

No idea, but there is no qualified answer possible, when you do not name the desktop environment.

it's not possible to alter the window borders now, you could try using Mint-X theme instead because that has smaller title bars albeit slightly
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

Edit your theme xml

Code: Select all

/home/[YOUR NAME]/.themes/[YOUR THEME]/metacity-1/metacity-theme-3.xml
viewtopic.php?t=291985

p.s. May be there are some scripts in your theme script folder for you.

Code: Select all

/home/[YOUR NAME]/.themes/[YOUR THEME]/scripts
For example, in my Cinnamox-Heather theme script folder I use script (cinnamox_titlebar_button_size.sh) for change button size. May be it help you to change title bar height with small font size.

Does any xml use for theme or it is binary?

Change the font size for the titlebar:

Make a copy of your current/favorite theme folder, rename it and start editing it manually.
Theoretically you'd have to search for all iterations of the text min-height in the css/scss files and reduce the value for those that at least seem to be related to titlebar/headerbar. That includes elements such as button, entry, toolbar, combobox etc. It will be tedious and error-prone but it can be done. I'd suggest settling for a value of at least 20px for titlebar/headerbar and 18px for elements.
