Weather applet doesn't work anymore

Since today my weather app seems not working anymore. I tried to uninstall and install but nothing, it hangs on the refresh symbol.

I'm running Mint 17.3 Cinnamon and the applet is Weather v1.11.19.

What can I check?

The weather applet (I assume that you are referring to the applet by mockturtl) relies on a request being made and an answer received. Since nothing has changed in the weather applet, it stands to reason that there is something wrong with the server not returning the requested information.

Mine (v1.12.4) stopped yesterday too. I suggest patience.

Same problem here, will wait and see......removed ,uninstalled and reinstalled with no difference

I have same problem. I did as you said Pjotr while it seems to be working the weather information is inaccurate. It says Temp is 73 here when all other weather service reports say it is 64. Everything else incorrect also

I actually didn't find this weather app accurate from the beginning. I think the one in MATE is better, but I didn't find how to install it in cinnamon

It appears that Yahoo is making some changes to the WOEID codes (among other things):

Please note, that testing a small number of the new WOEID codes provided no result with the exception of London - WOEID code 44418.

true. But it would be good if the weather app in cinnamon use the same services that MATE use.

Same here no go since the update, I just switched to the desklet accuweather one instead, it works fine and I actually like better, but I do miss the panel reading when windows are filling up my page.
Tried uninstalling deleting old files and reinstalling no go, the desklet is a nice replacement.

where did you find the accuweather desklet. I looked in the desklets but didn't see

when you open desklets under settings click the second tab "Available desklets online"
put the checkbox selected forr accuweather desklet and click the install or update the selected items button on the bottom left corner, go back to install desklet tab if it is not installed for the desktop then that's where you do it (just like the applets)

The weather applet, as distinct from the weather desklet, will work again if you do the following:

Go to https://github.com/mockturtl/cinnamon-w ... issues/134, copy the text file at "applet.txt" shown in the post by 4t4h3cl and substitute that for the existing contents of applet.js found in ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets/weather@mockturtl.

You might also like to change the line in applet.js linking to the WOEID so that it reads:

const WOEID_URL = "http://woeid.rosselliot.co.nz/"

Save your changes and then refresh Cinnamon (Ctrl+Alt Esc) and enter the new numerical WOEID code.

Thanks. Your advice gets it half-working for me (London, UK). No location name shown in applet, no 5 day forecast shown. The weather info. outlook, temp, wind all look about right.

You can set a location name in the configuration screen "override location label" although the numerical code for London, UK (44418) should state "London" (it does so for me).

However, most of the indicated values are incorrect - for example "Wind Chill" is currently shown as 61°C. The temperatures shown are lower than they really are. Wind direction is way off as is pressure and humidity.

I can get accurate weather information using Weatherzone via my browser which tells me that today it will be 28°C.

A fix on GitHub is now available.

Users need to download the zip file on this page: https://github.com/ccprog/cinnamon-weat ... new-format

and replace the contents of their `~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets/weather@mockturtl` directory with the contents of the zip file's `cinnamon-weather-ccprog-yahoo-new-format` directory.

Hope this helps.

To spell it out:

• Download the zip.
• Move it to `~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets/`
• Extract the downloaded zip file.
• Delete the `weather@mockturtl` directory.
• Rename the `cinnamon-weather-ccprog-yahoo-new-format` directory as `weather@mockturtl`.
• Restart Cinnamon (log out and back in again if you don't know how to do this).
• You will then need to reconfigure the applet's settings.

P.S. This version also fixes the 'override location label' feature which hasn't worked for ages.
