Compiz in Cinnamon - missing taskbar/panel

Post by bravew0lf »

Fresh install of Mint 18.1 'Serena' "Cinnamon 64-bit"
Installed necessary packages for Compiz and then

Code: Select all

compiz --replace
Compiz with full effects
Taskbar/panel disappeared (I understand that

Code: Select all

cinnamon --replace
brings the panel back but also it gets rid of Compiz all together)

I'd like to have it back without it getting rid of Compiz so if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

I've always heard that Compiz doesn't work in Cinnamon. Either I'm wrong, which is always an option, or you're out of luck.

Well I have it running in Cinnamon currently and using the Applications menu via Cairo-dock due to the fact that the original panel is missing.
What is the equivalent of

Code: Select all

mate-panel --reset
in Cinnamon?

Sorry, I haven't the foggiest. I'm more of a GUI user.

Is there a way to reset the panel-service?

Why not just use Mate which has Compiz built in?

I was given Cinnamon, was told it looked better. I see no reason that this minor issue couldn't get fixed, Compiz runs smoothly on Cinnamon and is as easy to install as it is on Ubuntu.

Besides Gnome 2 & 3, What is the difference between the two?
Same menus, themes, etc?
